I know, like me, you have probably come to accept this behaviour as a norm (and if you haven't, you should!) There is no bigger hypocrite than the orchestrator of a system; they always flout the system's rules/boundaries, but also expect others to work within the system's confines down to the letter and beyond. Sad, but true. Now don't get me wrong, I am not saying the police are bad, or doing a bad job (I am sure that they have a job a darn sight more challenging than mine, and that the level of sh*t they have to put up with is immense to say the least!) but as you rightly point out: they are supposed to lead by example. I see the thing that pisses you off the most is the fact it looks like sheer lazyness and carelessness. It is not hard to just pay attention and follow the simplest of rules when they should know that everybody is watching, and take responsibility for their job in every, even the most trivial, of situations.
